Most local businesses strive to make sure that their address can be found online, but not all local business owners want their address found online.
When you run a service business where you have no physical storefront, Google should not display your address to the world. Learn how to hide your home address in Google My Business and select your desired service area.
We take care of claiming, verifying and optimizing your Google My Business page if you are one of our clients and on a marketing or SEO plan.
With our marketing services, we include hiding your address (if you do not have a storefront) and setting up your service area accurately. However, if you manage your business’s listings and place pages by yourself, you may follow these instructions to conceal your address on Google My Business.
The following steps will walk you through how to conceal your address on Google My Business.
- You must log into your Google account to edit the listing.
- Click on the “Info” tab.
- Click the pencil to edit the address in the address section.
- Clear the address by clicking on the section that says: “Clear address”.
- Please click “Apply”.
- Select your service area and click the pencil.
- If you don’t have the information already, you can always add zip codes and cities to the list for the areas you service.
- To save your changes, click “Apply”.
Your home address will now be hidden, but local consumers should still be able to find you in searches if you set the correct service area.
How Will Google My Business Work After You Hide Your Address?
Because you’ve hidden your address, no one can see it, but as long as you market your business locally they should still find your company in relevant searches.
There may be a requirement for you to re-verify your listing after carrying out these steps, which can be found in Google’s official help on hiding your business address on Google, so you should be aware of that.
Managing your Google My Business listing is only one step in the right direction toward a more successful local search marketing campaign.
