Based on the data from those studies, we can give you some insight as to how often you should post to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

How Often Should You Post on Facebook?

In the case of Facebook, most marketers will tell you that two posts per day are the right number. However, data tell us otherwise.

Using Hubspot’s large database of 13,500+ customers, Hubspot examined whether business owners could reach more people if they posted more frequently on the social network. Their research found that only businesses with 10K followers or more saw a jump in their click-through rate when posting more than once a day.

With less than 10,000 followers, businesses that posted twice daily received 50 percent fewer clicks. Businesses that only posted 1-5 times per month, however, saw their engagement shot up to double digits!

How does Facebook’s new algorithm affect your Facebook strategy?

Brands have trouble getting their content in front of their audience because Facebook prioritizes content from friends and family, but cranking up your post volume won’t help you.

3,338 profiles were examined by Sotrender in order to see how post reach looked after the algorithm changed, and the following data describes what they found. Organic reach drops drastically for each additional post a brand makes during the day. Our advice is to stick to one post per day or five posts per week.

How Often Should You Post on Twitter?

There’s no limit to how often you can post on Twitter. Here’s why.

Tweets only last anywhere from 15-20 minutes before they get pushed down to the bottom of followers’ feeds.

How can you combat the high turnover rate on Twitter? Tweet at regular intervals throughout the day, but make sure not to overload your followers with tweets.

Most retweets happen within an hour after they are published, so posting 10 or more tweets every day each day can pay off. But not everyone can do this. This is why it’s important to base your Twitter posting strategy on your goals.

If you want to see your tweets get more engagement, send between 1 and 5 tweets per day. Studies suggest that engagement drops off after the third tweet, and it has also been determined that tweet response peaks at 5 tweets a day. 

We suggest you choose a happy medium with 3 to 5 tweets per day. 

How Often Should You Post on Instagram?

Instagram may seem overwhelming for small businesses because it relies so heavily on visuals. However, the top brands only post 1.5 times a day, on average.

Another social network where your audience size affects your posting frequency is Instagram. For example, businesses with smaller audiences should post no more than one photo daily.

Consistency might be more important to your Instagram marketing strategy than frequency.

If your audience’s accustomed to three posts a day and suddenly you’re only posting one, you’ll see a decrease in engagement and possibly even lose followers. 

We’d advise starting with a post a day.

How Often Should You Post on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn recommends writing 20 posts a month. Since users typically visit LinkedIn during the working week, this makes sense. 

We have experimented with three different sharing options: sharing one post each day (including the weekends), sharing two posts per day, and one post a day (as recommended by LinkedIn). All three scenarios were highly engaged, although we noticed a significant drop in engagement for posts that ran Saturday and Sunday.

It is important to remember that LinkedIn is not about the frequency at which you share, but rather the quality of the content you share. LinkedIn is a professional networking site.

The content you share on LinkedIn should allow you to stay on top of the latest developments in the industry and help your audience work more productively. 

It is recommended to post at least one and not more than two times a day, sticking strictly to business-related topics.

The following is a general guideline for how often you should post on social media: 

  • Facebook: 1 time per day or 5 times per week 
  • Twitter: 3-5 times per day – don’t overwhelm followers
  • Instagram: 1 time per day to start with – be consistent

Keep track of how many posts you’re posting per day in a spreadsheet. After a few weeks, look at your analytics. Determine whether you need to increase or decrease your posting frequency.

Only post content that is engaging, entertaining, and useful to your followers. Quality always beats quantity in social media marketing.
